MR PETER MACHIN, EX FOREMAN PAINTER AT NORTHAMPTON, AND THE ONLY MAN WHO COULD GET RUNS TO GO UPWARDS, HAS MADE THE FOLLOWING CONTRIBUTION, WHICH HE CONSIDERS PASSES FOR HUMOUR WHERE HE COMES FROM IN SUSSEX !!
Seriously though, Peter was a very fine chap in our opinion, and was at his best when repainting B5 in the last days at the Depot, in 1990.
When requested by the new owner to paint the Euc R-15 in "Parkinson Green" (dark green for those that dont know !!), Peter either chose to misunderstand, or wasnt listening, because when the call went through that the truck was finished, it was discovered to be in Hi-Lite Green instead !!
The new owner being a little miffed, pointed out the error, and Peter asked what should he do, whereby he was instructed, using the same job number, series 1/40000 ish, "to re-paint the bugger the proper green", which he did, and it remains in that livery today, and we have to say, having seen it, that the paint must have been a damn sight better quality to what the manufacturer uses today, as it is still sticking to the machine, whereas today`s examples are near naked after a few years with what they use now.
Anyway, Peter has sent in a couple of images from his local newspaper, with his comments, and a little note to go with them........
....now these are a little overexposed, but hopefully you will get the gist.... ....and....
...the "Brian" is Brian Heasman, longtime JBH painter working with Peter at Northampton, referring we assume to Brian leaving lumps in the paint, although we are sure that wasn`t the case.
